Yay 42! I have to make a “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” reference!

“Six by nine. Forty two.”

But I know how that sentence is true! Answer Saturday.

    Base 13!

    6X9 = 42 in base 13 and we can show this simply by using addition:

    (Remember base 13 is basically every 13th digit means that the tens place increases one)

    9+9 = 15

    15+9 = 21

    21+9 = 2A (Using A as the tenth digit in base 13)

    2A+9 = 37

    37+9 = 42!

    Douglas Adams commented on this saying, “I may be a sorry case, but I don’t write jokes in base 13.”
