The Zebra Puzzle AKA The Einstein Puzzle

Albert Einstein was purported to have made this puzzle and said that only 2% of the people in the world could figure it out. I don’t believe that. For one thing I’m no Einstein and I’ve figured it out. Thrice. Once when I was 9 or 10 another when I was either 11 or 12 and just now to get the answer for this. So either I’m better at this than 98% of the world (which is unlikely) or that more than 2% can do it. Also the original puzzle had references to certain things that didn’t even exist during Einstein’s time when he was supposed to write it. And that’s another thing. He “wrote” it during his boyhood. He was not the brightest person around then so I doubt he could write a puzzle like this or even guess a percentage.

With that out of the way this is a perfect example of a logic puzzle. You are given clues and you have to expand on those. anyone who knows how to draw a table or, even better, a logic grid (which is used for a specific type of logic puzzle like this one) But I’ll use a table.

House number 1 House number 2 House number 3 House number 4 House number 5
Color
Nationality
Drink
Car
Pet

Now put down on the paper (outside the table):

Color: red, yellow, green, blue, ivory

Nationality: Ukrainian, Englishman, Japanese, Norwegian, Spainiard,

Drink: milk, water, orange juice, coffee, tea

Car: Chevy, Ford, Porsche, Dodge, Toyota

Pet: Horse, Fox, Zebra, Dog, Snails

Now you must put them together using these clues.

  1. There are five houses.
  2. The Englishman lives in the red house.
  3. The Spaniard owns the dog.
  4. Coffee is drunk in the green house.
  5. The Ukrainian drinks tea.
  6. The green house is immediately to the right of the ivory house.
  7. The chevy owner also owns snails.
  8. The Toyota is in the yellow house.
  9. Milk is drunk in the middle house.
  10. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
  11. The man who has a Porsche lives in the house next to the man with the fox.
  12. The Toyota is in a house next to the house where the horse is kept.
  13. The Ford owner drinks orange juice.
  14. The Japanese has a Dodge
  15. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.

Now, who drinks water? Who owns the zebra? In the interest of clarity, it must be added that each of the five houses is painted a different color, and their inhabitants are of different national extractions, own different pets, drink different beverages and [own different brands of cars]. One other thing: in statement 6, right means your right. -somewhat the original publication by Life International magazine

Those are the clues and those are all correct so check your answers with them. This is a open puzzle so no answer from me. Tell me in the comments if you could do it with no help or if you failed miserably. If you can you’ll be part of the *Ahem*2 percent that can ;). A new puzzle will be out Monday (maybe).

Ha ha! New puzzle! this one is hard.

Once upon a time, and old lady went to sell her vast quantity of eggs at the local market.

When asked how many she had, she replied:

Son, I can’t count past 100 but I know that.

If you divide the number of eggs by 2 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 3 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 4 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 5 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 6 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 7 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 8 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 9 there will be one egg left.
If you divide the number of eggs by 10 there will be one egg left.

Finally. If you divide the Number of eggs by 11 there will be NO EGGS left!

Mini puzzle 3

here is a simple puzzle that I just don’t feel like it would be a good regular one.

I can be created by humans, But they cannot control me. I suck on wood, paper and flesh alike. I can be more of a hindrance than help at times. To my creators, I seem to be everywhere at once. What am I?

Mini puzzle 2

What it the square root of -1? It requires a fair knowledge of math but not so much as to be impossible to anyone who tries it. Just call on the math you learned and threw out once you didn’t need it.
