Mini Puzzle 1
Woot! More puzzles! These are more of a rapid answer or simple but kinda tricky to understand. Like this one: A button that if you can get it to activate it will reveal the codeword that when entered into the above post will show you how I did it. Sometimes I won’t tell you the answer (like this time) but I might occasionally. I’ll post new ones frequently.

10. Who said, “Now there are more overweight people in America than average-weight people. So overweight people are now average… which means, you have met your New Year’s resolution.”

Puzzle 24
HAPPY NEW YEAR
as the last puzzle of the year I’d like to end with a bang. 3… 2… 1… wait first:
You go to a New Year’s party. You are early and things just got set out. You go and treat yourself to a couple of snacks and some punch. People start arriving and it’s been cool all night. A new bowl of punch was brought. You take a drink and wait the hour until midnight not eating or drinking anything else. You leave a couple of minutes afterward. You find in the paper next day that everyone at that party died. There was poison in the punch. But you did not die and you drank from it. You nor any other guest tampered with the punch bowl after it was set.
- HOW DID THE POISON GET THERE AND WHY DIDN’T YOU DIE
Tomorrow I’ll have a special thing up but the answers to this puzzle will be out Friday January 7 in the comments.
Happy new year to you all
Badda bing badda

Christmas Carol Countdown: DECEMBER 31: Auld Lang Syne
By the time you’ve read this It’s probably past new year’s day. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
This song is, possibly, the oldest song in popular use. It was written by Robert Burns in 1788. It is normally used at new years but it is also commonly sung at birthdays, funerals, graduations and other occasions as a symbol of ending of a era and a new one coming. It was written for the Scottish tune Roud 6294. I cannot say more than the lyrics. Put 3 versions up. in order as follows: Original Scottish, Scottish pronunciation and Minimalist English. Enjoy this last carol and hope 2011 will be good to you.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne ?CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my jo,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.And surely ye’ll be your pint-stowp !
and surely I’ll be mine !
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.CHORUS
We twa hae run about the braes,
and pu’d the gowans fine ;
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary fit,
sin auld lang syne.CHORUS
We twa hae paidl’d i’ the burn,
frae morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
sin auld lang syne.CHORUS
And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere !
and gie’s a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll tak a right gude-willy waught,
for auld lang syne.CHORUS
And fer you who want to sound like the scottish while singing it instead of someone talking gibberish. Here’s a pronunciation guide for that:
Shid ald akwentans bee firgot,
an nivir brocht ti mynd?
Shid ald akwentans bee firgot,
an ald lang syn?CHORUS:
Fir ald lang syn, ma jo,
fir ald lang syn,
wil tak a cup o kyndnes yet,
fir ald lang syn.An sheerly yil bee yur pynt-staup!
an sheerly al bee myn!
An will tak a cup o kyndnes yet,
fir ald lang syn.CHORUS
We twa hay rin aboot the braes,
an pood the gowans fyn;
Bit weev wandert monae a weery fet,
sin ald lang syn.CHORUS
We twa hay pedilt in the burn,
fray mornin sun til dyn;
But seas between us bred hay roard
sin ald lang syn.CHORUS
An thers a han, my trustee feer!
an gees a han o thyn!
And we’ll tak a richt gude-willie-waucht,
fir ald lang syn.CHORUS
And for you who don’t want to sound like you went insane. Here is a minimalist English version:
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne ?CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
and surely I’ll buy mine !
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.CHORUS
We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine ;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.CHORUS
We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.CHORUS
And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.CHORUS
Christmas Carol Countdown: December 30: White Christmas
“White Christmas” is an Irving Berlin song reminiscing about an old-fashioned Christmas setting.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, The recording made by Bing Crosby of this song is THE best-selling single of all time. It has sold roughly 50 MILLION copies worldwide. We don’t exactly know when or where Berlin wrote the song. a theory of the time and place Berlin wrote the song is that it was written 1940, next to the pool at the Biltmore hotel in Phoenix, Arizona. They say he called his secretary in the night saying, “Grab your pen and take down this song. I just wrote the best song I’ve ever written — Nix that, I just wrote the best song that anybody’s ever written!” And what he said may be true.
The first public performance was by Bing Crosby on the radio show Kraft Music Hall on christmas day in 1941. this, however, was not the recording that became #1. The recording that eventually became the one that was famous was for the movie Holiday Inn with John Scott Trotter Orchestra and the Ken Darby Singers in 1942. The only thing Bing said after hearing it played by Irving Berlin was, “I don’t think we have any problems with that one, Irving.” And for the most part it became just another song. But in October, four months after the movie was released it started to soar in popularity. In 1947 the Bing and the others came back in to Decca Records to create a new version since the old one became damaged. It was mostly the same but there were slight differences. Soon it came up and climbed higher. Crosby though it just the song itself, and not him and the other singers, which made it a success saying, “a jackdaw [a bird that has a terrible call and annoying song.]… could have sung it successfully.”
Tomorrow is new years eve. The final day of the year, December and the countdown. Soo practice yer Scottish.
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snowI’m dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be whiteI’m dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
Christmas Carol Countdown: December 29: Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
Nope… Too obscure… No way! *Sigh* I have one carol left for the new years category, Auld Lang Syne, but that’s going to be for new years eve. So I’m out. Nope, nada. I’m forced to get into the hit singles category. I’ve seen these two rated high on every list I’ve seen so I’ll do one today and one tomorrow.
[Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!] is a song written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in 1945. It was written in July 1945 in Hollywood, California during one of the hottest days on record.
Nice, the weather outside WAS frightful, but not in the way you’d think. Lets see… dig some more… ah! First recorded by Vaughn Monroe. And it skyrocketed to #1 on the Billboard chart in one year. Wow thats cool. No pun intended.
Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!It doesn’t show signs of stopping,
And I’ve bought some corn for popping,
The lights are turned way down low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!When we finally kiss goodnight,
How I’ll hate going out in the storm!
But if you’ll really hold me tight,
All the way home I’ll be warm.The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we’re still good-bying,
But as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
